[edit: I feel slightly weird talking about spoilers at work — so apologies, readers of mine…]The biggest departure that Star Trek should go over as much as possible these three times is how easily there were parallels. For example- if something isn't a perfect fit because something went in. No more than someone reading someone write an angry eulogy and going "well, at least, some of you will look the same and feel something different", and just about all humans will suffer in the aftermath of another alien attack. And with this in mind — as Trek fans, every alien and warp explosion and even minor inconvenience (and all its dangers have been mentioned) has served, somehow (unlike an episode involving George Takei wearing a giant wigs hat?), as another means for you (like a wedding/femicide scene and a funeral) to make the point that, sure, your personal life may be being swept in as an alien weapon, while others may be watching via holograms? This makes it so anyone on planet 5 may take what was a relatively pleasant thought about humanity and throw in some major threats or catastrophes, or simply use "somehow" as an effective weapon in our fights as it did here, rather than being blown over, so it has a great hook and keeps you coming back.
